IT Organizations must adapt and evolve like never before. Over the coming years, the role of IT will change at an ever-increasing speed. This is forcing companies to re-think their IT strategies for the future and to compare and validate their findings.

Steven Thomas will be session speaker at the GSE Management Summit taking place 05-06 October 2015, Split, Croatia.

The topic of this session is “Business Value from Capacity and Performance Data” and Mr Thomas will elaborate on how to create valuable knowledge from technical data related to your IT installation.

Mr. Thomas speak is on the agenda for Monday October 5, from 14:45 to 15:30

About the session

Most companies struggle to create value from the huge amounts of data available to them on all aspects of their IT installation. These data include measurements of performance, capacity, availability and usage for every hardware and software component in their data center. Mapping this measurement data to IT costs and explaining what business activities or organizations are generating those IT costs is also a challenge.

Operating systems provide a wealth of data about what is going on. SMF data from z/OS, WMI data from Windows or data from corresponding utilities in Unix can be collected, filtered and aggregated into a data warehouse. The data can then be enriched with relations to business dimensions such as cost, organization or business activities. Finally business intelligence tools and techniques can be applied to analyze and present the data.

This allows for multiple levels of understanding from the strategic KPI dashboard level, through tactical capacity management and cost distribution, down to operational performance tuning and optimization. Data and tools can, however, only take us part of the way on the road to transparency. Implementing Business Intelligence on top of the transformed IT data (also known as ITBI) requires careful planning as well as changes to organization, processes and mind-set in order to create real value.

  • IT Managers
  • IT Decision Makers

IT Organizations must adapt and evolve like never before. Over the coming years, the role of IT will change at an ever-increasing speed. This is forcing companies to re-think their IT strategies for the future and to compare and validate their findings.

The speed at which changes in business are taking place, most situations call for critical decisions requiring your immediate insight and action. Enterprising efforts in digital business, where the real world comes together with the digital world, are becoming more and more crucial for success. Increasingly, business cases arise which cannot be handled with traditionally created estimates. In such an environment and with recent advances in technology, expectations related to information usage have grown dramatically and business analytics is the key for global leaders.

Till now, IT has focused on efficiency and reliable networks. However, new business requires IT to shift focus to analysing data for business decisions and partnering with stakeholders for faster delivery. Technologies and skills needed for using information in the digital business are the key factors to ensure success.
